- The time gap between you and the vehicle ahead, measured in seconds.

- Allow other road users to proceed before you do.

- Provisional licence
- A learner permit allowing supervised driving before the practical test.

- Right of way
- The legal right to proceed first in a given traffic situation.
- Roadworthy
- A vehicle in a safe, legal condition to be used on public roads.

- Stopping distance
- Thinking distance plus braking distance — grows sharply with speed.
