- 1Slow down gently — don't slam the brakes. Pull as far off the road as safely possible.
- 2Switch on hazard lights. Place a red warning triangle 30 metres behind the car.
- 3Get passengers out of the car and away from traffic.
- 4Loosen the wheel nuts BEFORE jacking. Then jack up, remove nuts, swap the wheel, hand-tighten.
- 5Lower the car and tighten nuts in a star pattern.
- 6Drive to the nearest tyre shop — a spare (biscuit) tyre is not meant for long distances.
